Music
Intent
Our intention is to inspire children to develop a love of music and build confidence as musicians. We will teach children to evaluate music from a range of genres and musicians.
We teach a weekly music lesson. We follow the National Curriculum and the vehicle we use to underpin this is Charanga Music School.
In addition pupils in Years 3 and 4 learn the ukulele and pupils in Year 6 will take part in a Djembe drum work shop. These lessons are taught by specialist music teachers.
The Charanga Musical School Scheme provides teachers with week-by-week lesson support for each year group in the school. It is ideal for specialist and non-specialist teachers and provides lesson plans, assessment, clear progression, and engaging and exciting whiteboard resources to support every lesson. The Scheme supports all the requirements of the national curriculum.
We follow the Charanga Music School Scheme from EYFS to Year 6.

Implementation
Music is taught through a weekly session following the Charanga scheme. Music skills are built upon through each lesson, resulting in a final performance piece at the end of each unit. See examples of skills progressions below.
Impact
For children to understand the relevance of what they are learning within music and to enjoy their musical experiences within school.
To evidence children’s work throughout school and ensure they experience performances from others as well as performing themselves.
