Computing
Intent
Our intention is to teach our pupils to use and program a computer with confidence, skill and enjoyment.
We teach pupils to develop skills in using algorithms, word processing and graphics and to work safely at all times.
We aim to provide our children with the opportunity to learn computing skills which will help prepare them for their future education.
We follow the National Curriculum and the vehicle we use to underpin our computing curriculum is Teach Computing through the National Centre of Computing Excellence. The computing curriculum delivers a coherent curriculum, which helps pupils to progress their knowledge, understanding and skills. We adapt to suit our own school’s context, curriculum, and the enthusiasms and interests of our pupils and colleagues. Please see https://teachcomputing.org/about for more information.
The unit overviews for each unit show the links between the content of the lessons and the national curriculum and Education for a Connected World framework (ncce.io/efacw). These references have been provided to show where aspects relating to online safety, or digital citizenship, are covered within the Teach Computing Curriculum.
Implementation
The computing curriculum is structured into units for each year group, and each unit is broken down into lessons. Units are taught in the order in the overview so that links with other areas of the curriculum can be made where appropriate.
Impact
For children to understand the relevance of the computing skills they are learning and how they can apply them to other areas of the NC.
For children to develop the necessary skills to equip them for changes in Digital Technologies.
Children's work will be evidenced in Google Classroom areas. Please see example document below.
