Attendance

  • Attendance

The government has set a target of 95% attendance for all children.

This rate allows for periods of illness or particular circumstances when absence from school is unavoidable.

Being in school is important to your child’s achievement, wellbeing, and wider development.

There are only a small number of circumstances where missing a school day is permitted. Your child must attend every day that the school is open, unless:

  • Your child is too ill to attend.
  • You have asked in advance and been given permission by the school for your child to be absent on a specific day due to exceptional circumstances.
  • Your child cannot go to school on a specific day because they are observing a religious event.

We monitor every child's attendance and have many incentives in place to encourage and improve attendance.

If your child’s attendance level is falling, we will contact you to explore the reasons and discuss what help can be put in place.

Further guidance on how to help your child to attend school is available here.

We reward children who have an excellent attendance record. Please see the information below.

Absence

Is your child well enough to be at school? Please click here for further guidance from the NHS.

In cases of absence due to sickness and diarrhoea, children should not return to school for at least 48 hours.

If your child will be absent from school due to illness, please call the school by 9.30am and leave a message on our absence line.

If we do not hear from you, we will call you to make sure your child is safe.

Please avoid making appointments for your child to see a doctor, dentist etc. during school time. If unavoidable, please bring your child in to school to be registered first and then collect them in time for their appointment. Please allow enough time for office staff to collect your child from their classroom.

All family holidays must be taken during school holidays. The Headteacher is unable to authorise any withdrawal from learning except in very exceptional circumstances.

Please note a fine may be incurred for unauthorised absences of five days or more or parents may be taken directly to court. Please ask in the office for further details.
