P.E. and Sports Premium is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and is sent directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and P.E. for pupils.

The funding can only be spent on sport and P.E. provision in schools.

Purpose of funding

Schools have to spend the funding on improving provision of P.E. and sport. Uses of the funding include:

Hiring specialist P.E. teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching P.E.

Introduce new sports, dance or other activities to encourage more pupils to take up sport and physical activities.

Support and involve the least active children by providing targeted activities and running or extending school sports and holiday clubs.

Running sport competitions, or increasing participation in the school games.

Provide additional swimming provision targeted to pupils not able to meet the swimming requirements of the national curriculum.

Embed physical education into the school day through travel to and from school, active playgrounds and active teaching.

Funding

Schools receive P.E. and Sports Premium based on the number of pupils in Years 1 to 6.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a culture that encourages all pupils to be active and have positive attitudes towards physical activity and healthy lifestyles. The funding will allow us to develop a programme which includes high quality physical education as part of the curriculum delivered by coaches; enough competitive school sport opportunities for those children who want to take part as well as activities designed to meet the needs of our least active young children through lunchtime and after school clubs.

We believe high quality physical education and school sport will contribute to a range of outcomes for our children. Not only does it equip young people with physical literacy while supporting their physical development, movement skills and body confidence, but it also contributes to their physical, mental and social well-being.

All children enjoy being appropriately challenged and at a young age, most are keen to explore their capabilities. Competitive sport will be focused on achieving ‘personal best’ rather than being the ‘best.’

Children currently experience the main sports i.e. football, netball, cricket, basketball, hockey, gymnastics and athletics in their P.E. curriculum lessons. Funding will be targeted towards after school clubs in some of these sports. Experienced and suitably qualified coaches will enable children to be able to learn more about specific sports, receive age-appropriate coaching and other expenses.
